About Your Wedding

If you want the best weddings pictures, please talk to your photographer and tell him what you like and want! The following questions are designed to help you identify exactly what you want.

Do you like formal or informal shots? Formal shots are all the traditional shots of the bride and groom and then of all the guests from large groups down to small groups of just the closest family members, best man and bridesmaids. Informal shots will include some formal looking shots but will try to catch the emotion and atmosphere of the wedding by the photographer mixing with the guests and taking spur of the moment shots, as unobtrusively as possible.

Do you like colour or black and white shots? Of course you’ll get lots of colour shots anyway, but if you like black and white or more moody shots, you need to tell your photographer.

Can the photographer attend the rehearsals? This is good for you both because you’ll get to know each other and feel more comfortable with him.

Your photographer does not know you, or your partners family, and yet has to organise the right group shots! So who can help him? One of the Ushers? Someone who knows most people and can organise people and get them in the right place at the right time. Or perhaps someone from the grooms side and someone from the brides side of the family.

A good idea is to have everyone who is going to be in the group shots altogether immediately after the ceremony. It is easiest if the photographer starts with the large group shots and then, as the groups get smaller and people go off the reception, there is more time and less pressure for those special shots of the bride and groom.

Have you thought about the location and where you would like to be photographed?

Does the bride want shots of her getting ready? With the bridesmaids at home? Leaving the family home or hotel room to go to the church? In the wedding car or getting out of the wedding car?

What about the flowers? Do you want shots of all the flowers, the wedding car, the cake, the food, the wine or anything else special?

How did you meet and who is important to you both that you would like photos of you together? Perhaps the person who introduced you?

Do you want lots of formal shots of the bride and the groom welcoming guests as they arrive and the reception?

Does the registry office or reception hall look good or not so good. Do you want the pictures to show the background or do you prefer the background to be out of focus?

Please discuss what you like and want with your photographer.

Please also bear in mind that weather conditions can make a big difference as can other things, such as whether the church (or registry office) will allow flash photography, who can help organise the guests, the interior lighting and a whole bunch of other things that may remain unforeseen until the big day!
